Photographic portrait of Paul Dewitt. Dr. Paul DeWitt completed his undergraduate work and medical training at Vanderbilt University. He was a Founder's Medalist in the School of Medicine in 1905. A prominent Nashville physician and surgeon, DeWitt worked at the State Training and Agricultural School. He also served as a general surgeon at Nashville General Hospital (1910-1911), Chairman of the Executive Committee at Protestant Hospital (1922-1923), and taught anatomy for a short time at Vanderbilt. DeWitt was elected chairman of the Nashville chapter of the American Red Cross several times and named an honorary chairman for life. Additionally, DeWitt was appointed Captain in the Medical Corps in World War I and served as potentate of the Al Menah Shrine Temple in Nashville.
